25 things to mark my 25th year in this funny old world

1. Telling people things are good even though really you'd rather things were a bit different doesn't make you a fraud. It means you're dealing with what's going on in your own private way and you need to figure some stuff out for yourself without unwanted life advice or judgement.

2. Saying that, it's always good to talk about these things to someone you trust to just listen and tell you it's all going to work out. And if you need more serious help, there are people for that too.

3. It's okay to live life at your own pace. Some people have to be doing something amazing every single second of every single day whilst some people like to live life to the full one day a week, the rest is spent working a job that pays the bills and the other day is spent binge watching a new series in your pj's.

4. Following on from that last point, being busy all the time doesn't make you successful at life and having time to do nothing doesn't mean you're failing. Success is very subjective. Society or our peers can tell us what they think success is but don't let that make you doubt your own version of success. If you think success is reading a library's worth of books and someone else's is to travel the world - then one is not better than the other.

5. Online life is best when it's fitted around your real life and not the other way round. Take time to smell the roses etc etc etc

6. Your online popularity really doesn't matter. At all. What does matter is your family, your partner and your friends who really know you, even if you can only count these people on one hand.

7. Take steps to minimize your life so you can fit more in it. Make your life more intentional by removing what isn't adding value to make more space for what does.

8. "The hardest part of life is realizing how simple it is." - Danial Graves

9. "When you stop fighting things and just live, breathe and try your best to treat people right, life just flows. It's that simple." - Dau Vouire

10. "Success is not final, failure is not fatel; it is the courage to continue that counts" - Winston Churchill

11. We make life more complicated for ourselves when we think we hold any real control over what could happen. When it comes down to it, some people work an honest and hard living all their life and it can get taken away from them in the blink of an eye, and then there are other people who hit rock bottom and because they have nothing else to lose, they take a risk that they never dreamed would pan out and it changes their life forever (I'm looking at you JKRowl!)

12. Forgive yourself for your mistakes. Congratulate yourself for admitting you made a mistake in the first place, not everyone can do that. Try to learn to let go of what wasn't meant to be.

13. Be who you want to be, not what others want to see. Know you don't have to accept the safe choices just because others want you to. Just because something is important to other people, doesn't mean it has to be for you.

14. If you're not good enough today, you can still be better tomorrow. Tough times will make you stronger, always remember that. Have faith in yourself that you will pick yourself up no matter how far you fall.

15. Don't let small minds convince you that your dreams are too big. And don't think you have to have "big" dreams in the first place, being happy is the biggest dream there is. And even if you are only following your dream in some small way, you are not failing.

16. Care and attend to other people's problems, but don't let them consume you. You can give your advice, but you have to know that you can't live their life for them. The kindest thing you can do for the people you care about is to be happy.

17. You can't do everything and you need to prioritise what's truly important to you. So spend time with the right people, not those that bring you down. Take the time to step outside of yourself and see the bigger picture

18. The very elements of our survival - food, water and shelter - are controlled by corporations who use people to fuel the elite. They control us with money so they can gain power, the only value they see in everyday people is profit. Sounds like propaganda but who cares, I don't like the way the world works but I don't see how I can do anything about it so I just sit back and buy new boots instead. It's okay if you don't save the world, watch It's a Wonderful Life and you'll see that if you try and do your best you will impact more lives than you could ever have thought.

19. "There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self" - Hemingway

20. "You should do this, you should do that" There are only a few things that I believe I should do - I should do what makes me happy, I should look after the ones I care about and I should try to avoid harming anyone including myself.

21. "You don’t have to get a job that makes others feel comfortable about what they perceive as your success. You don’t have to explain what you plan to do with your life. You don’t have to justify your education by demonstrating its financial rewards. You don’t have to maintain an impeccable credit score. Anyone who expects you to do any of those things has no sense of history or economics or science or the arts. You have to pay your electric bill. You have to be kind. You have to give it all you got. You have to find people who love you truly and love them back with the same truth. But that’s all." - Cheryl Strayed

22. “We are all ordinary. We are all boring. We are all spectacular. We are all shy. We are all bold. We are all heroes. We are all helpless. It just depends on the day.” - Brad Meltzer

23. Mary Ellen on style, "I think it’s all about truly, truly knowing yourself, loving yourself – not just modifying, covering flaws, etc. – but loving yourself exactly the way you are right now – and dressing to honor that."

24. You can't be jealous of one component of somebody's life such as their smoking bod' and think "why can't I just be like her". No you have to look at the whole picture. If you were to be like her, you'd also have her mum and not yours. Now that's something I wouldn't trade even for a smoking bod'.

25. I'm an over-thinker, an INFJ and I definitely don't have all the answers
